Hi

Safe would be just well retarded, and avoid busy traffic. Don't bother with a curve and keep the revs low. But still potential for mistakes.

Think there is an ignition timing map for some of the cars in one of the 33 workshop manuals (series 2 supplements I think). I will try and dig it out.

Isn't there a default safe map with the ignition system?

All the best

Keith

thanks Keith, i will have a look at the older engines spec and try to use the figures from them as a temperary measure should be close enough for a steady drive.

I was using this map for my ignition on 16V engine. Use with 98 octane fuel.
Compression ratio was 10.5:1.

Check that the mixure is rich enough or else you'll get slight detonation over 5500 rpm. Or you can retard the ignition by 2°.
