We'll I'm here.... 1,000 posts (rolls out BAFTA acceptance speech) :

I hope I've been at least occasionally helpful, honest and now and again humourous.

I'd like to thank all the friends I've made on here. Without you all, running a 33 (not that mine's ACTUALLY running at the moment!) would be a near impossible task... so I'd like to thank the nice people on here for their time and knowledge.

There we go.... here's to another thousand.

CHEERZ,

Bob Cool

P.S. I clearly need to get a proper life and hobby... so if anyone has any ideas... please let me know! (Prefer one where the wife won't go "I bashed my shin on that f***ing engine outside again")

Only 4 1/2 years?!?!? That's because (unlike another forum where people put in posts simply to raise their post count... not naming any names.... COUGH... ALFAOWNER) - we try to at least make most posts on topic.

I'm forgetting me manners.... Thanks Keith for whom none of us would be here... and thanks Scott and Tino for ensuring we don't collapse under piles of junk posts!

29 posts behind me. Well, 30 having typed this.

<- Hint

By the way, 16V is not the highest rank.

All the best

Wonder how many 33s will be left in another four and a half years? Confused

Bob, a proper life and another hobby? Why didn't somebody tell me about this. I didn't know it was possible once you had acquired a 33. Is there an AA type group where one can get help? I've managed through sheer strength of will to keep it down to four 33s so I don't think my case is totally hopeless.
Oh God, I've just realised the lowered springs are only 4 weeks away, the Zender body kit is close and the bigbore exaust is already on. Is there no hope. Should I send back the components for my own crossover manifold?
Regards Eddie

You're getting lowering springs? Where from, how much and will they remain captive with standard shocks at full extension?
And a big bore exhaust too? My black car's exhaust system is now custom from the last junction of the headers. You can see the centre resonator on the left in this shot:
http://www.axys.co.nz/ben/alfa33/newexhaustpiping.jpg
I still have the same twin tip and rear muffler that I've had for a year or two now, I just upgraded the rest to go with it. The guy who did the work has built a few crossover manifolds for race cars, and he talked me out of one for road use - he reckoned the expense and loss of ground clearance aren't worth the slight power gain over my system. Don't let me put you off though - I want to hear how it changes the exhaust sound!

Hi Ben, not really a big bore, only 2" but a considerable improvement on the squitty piece of crap that some exhaust crowd had mangled in to place before I got it. Some of those guys are the modern equivelant of highwaymen and should be hung at a crossroads as a warning.
The body kit alas is not quite in the state it was in when I put it into storage at Glen's workshop. Somebody ( not Glen or his boys) has robbed a nut and bolt off it with consequence that one of the custom brackets is gone and there are chunks missing and splits and cracks. This in the rear bar, the front is only chipped and scratched. They were ready for topcoat paint when I left them there.
The springs I'm getting are Jamex ($299). Mike Ash had some struts recently on Trademe with Jamex fitted and reasonably new steering bearings and they went for $350. I thought I'd get the springs and fit new bearings to struts I have confidence in for very little more. Lower the car by 30mm.
Keep in touch.
Regards Eddie

I recently put Monroe shocks into the front of my black car, and between that and cleaning the strut pan bearings the handling has changed a lot. I'm suspicious that the arms on the struts that connect to the steering arms must have slightly different geometry from those on my original factory struts.
For my next trick I'll be taking the struts out of my grey car, replacing the boots, cleaning the bearings and swapping the shocks with the old ones from my black car. Grey car also needs an outer CV boot, which is a job I've no idea how to do but I probably should stop paying Pete over a hundred bucks a time to do it for me!

My flatmate missed out on that white 33 from Trademe - he only had $1000 to spend and ended up buying a 1981 KA Ford Laser.
The seller of that 33 went and had his parts car towed, which I was disappointed about - many little trim pieces, wheel bolts etc gone to the dump.

Ben, I wish people wouldn't send cars to the tip until us locusts had had a go at it.
