This guy on ebay is selling this mod which apparently gives you more power http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2413694595&category=14767 all it is, is a 4.7kohm resistor (39p from radio shack apparently) that is fitted to a Temp Sensor(air I think)?? might be a neat trick. Don't know if any of you know how this would work.
I am not suggesting you buy off this bloke more like buy the resitor cheap yourself and fit it.
The idea I believe (from reading the negative feedback) is that it tricks the ECU into thinking that the air or engine?? is cold and advances the timing giving better performance. Anyone got any input?? |

Sounds like an old trick from the 1980's when early EFI systems (like L-Jetronic) came out and were optimed for low emisions and fuel economy. So yes, if you fool it into thinking the engine is cold it will supply more fuel, which might give you more mid-range and/or top end power. If you modify the engine for better breathing, then it is even more likely that more fuel is needed. This is rather a hit and miss method - one size resistor might be best for mid range, but a different size for top end.
The other problem is, that with modern ECU's there may be other things that get changed when it thinks the engine is cold. Some might be good, but others might not. So remapping is the way to go, but you could try this method - as long as you have some way of measuring your improvements. |

Hi
Might work. Might screw up your fuel consumption. Very crude way of doing things.
Might really confuse a late 33 with a lambda probe
All the best

As said above, it's really trial and error. And the power increse will be very low. I have tried this trick with a racing 156 2.0 on a test (The ECU didn't look to the lambda). The computer showed as much as 1 PK at the best resistor choice. So don't think to put and a resistor and testdrive...
Maybe the result on a 33 will be slightly better, but you won't feel it. |

Waste of time - as said, itll just make the engine run richer which is worse than a correctly tuned engine which will run near stochiometric. _________________ Alfa Sprint QV - Gone to a better home and in happier health for it
