Hi All. I have been attempting to remove the rear bumper on my M reg 16Valve as I need to do some surface rust treatment on the rear steel panel that hides under the plastic bumper. I know that I have to undo the bolts that fix the bumper struts in the boot but there are also two bolts that fix the bumper to the rear of the wheelarch. These are little b******s to undo as the bolts just seem to rotate!! Is there an easier way of getting them undone without wrecking the bumper?? Cheers Paul.

I have had to cut them out in the past with a stanley knife as the bolts have sheared. As long as you only put a single cut into the bumper you can put a new bolt in and nip it up tight.
If they are spinning, just grind the heads off. |

Yep, those nuts are a pain to undo! Basically squirt generously with WD40 and leave for 30min. They should undo nicely.
The actual captive nuts that hold the brackets in place are also quite tough, especially if they're broken (i.e. not captive). Simply use plenty of WD40 and hold in place with pliers whilst undoing.
