I am going to wash the engine and the engine bay with a karcher water spray(water pistol?). I will cover with plastic bags the ECU, the coils, the brake fluid tank, the alarm and disconect the battery.
After im done with it i will use air from a air compresor to dry all the engine and any electrical connection and spray it with WD 40 or silicone spray.
Any advises? Should i try it or i can make a damage to the car?

DON'T USE A SPRAY WASHER on the engine covering the ECU or not

The consequences could be rather expensive.

Hi,

I agree with Gary ; The consequences may be rather pocket painfull !!!
A guy that I know owns a Mercedes SEL 500 or something. He went to the gas station for having the engine washed.
The consequence was that damage was done to the ECU; he paid about 7500 € for a new one. Embarassed

Anyway you can do something else:

Use glass cleaner liquid like AZAX and a small brush (4 x 4 cm or something) and locate the areas that need cleaning and should be clean so that you can trace any possible leaks.
For example the steering pump, the coolant hoses unions, the heads cover etc.

These areas are simple to clean; let the liquid moisten the dirt, then brush it and use the old rugs to wipe the area.
About the cylinder heads cover you can do it rather easily if you remove the air filter , and then use water to clean out the dirt.

Keep in mind to disconnect the battery and the engine should be cold
and you should be very careful to every move you make.

I have done this to my engine and it was succesful.

All the best,

Well i did it today right after the MONZA GRAN PRIX(GO FERRARI GO Very Happy )
and it was very easy with no problems at all.It was the third time i did that in a car (the other two times it was in my JULIA).I wouldent have tryed it if i didnt have the air compresor to dry the humidity from the engine and WD 40 to put in every electrical connection and in the accelerator cable and butterfly spring.

Getting home with the ECU in 'limp home mode' is not worth a clean engine you have been lucky but it will not always be this way.
