Hello everyone,

here I go again! This time I noticed a small leak at the union next to the alternator (the one that goes on the engine block and that is connected to the lower water hose of the radiator - amongst other).

I tried to fix it the first time by putting good quality gasket compound on the mating surface but it started leaking again...

I decided to have a look on the eper documentation and I noticed that there is a o-ring which seems to have been missing in the assembly since the beginning.

More specifically, it is part number 23 on the following page:

http://eper.fiatforum.com/eper/navi?COUNTRY=012&GRP_COD=104&SBMK=R&DRIVE=D&SGS_COD=1&MAKE=R&COMM_MODEL=33&CAT_COD=W6&MOD_COD=133&SGRP_COD=2&ALL_FIG=0&LANGUAGE=3&PREVIOUS_KEY=SUBGROUP_7&NEW_HTTP=TRUE&ALL_LIST_PART=0&SB_CODE=-1&KEY=PARTDRAWDATA&PRINT_MODE=0&EPER_CAT=SP&GUI_LANG=3&WINDOW_ID=1

It is in fact present on both 8v and 16v versions:
http://eper.fiatforum.com/eper/navi?COUNTRY=012&GRP_COD=104&SBMK=R&DRIVE=D&SGS_COD=0&MAKE=R&COMM_MODEL=33&CAT_COD=W6&MOD_COD=133&SGRP_COD=2&ALL_FIG=0&LANGUAGE=3&PREVIOUS_KEY=SUBGROUP_7&NEW_HTTP=TRUE&ALL_LIST_PART=0&SB_CODE=-1&KEY=PARTDRAWDATA&PRINT_MODE=0&EPER_CAT=SP&GUI_LANG=3&WINDOW_ID=1

(here it is number 14 but the reference is the exact same)

My question is, where does this oring actually fits? because the section of the union is rectangular, where should I be supposed to put it?

The workshop manual does not mention anything about this oring during the engine disassembly...

Thank you very much for your reply.

Cheers

Hi

The oring may be an error in the epert parts catalogue.
I have rebuilt quite a number of them engines and have yet to see such an oring in that location.
I'd go for the flat gasket with correct surface perparation before installation.

regards,
zp

You can find the oring in the compressor bracket, it is placed between the engine block and the compressor bracket has a groove to place it, there's even a photo ...

Yes, but not on the standard small union.
