Okay so I have been a complete numbty. Having carefully spent the last few days cleaning and painting suspension pans from spares pile and then putting together two new strut set ups I carefully fitted them to my sons 33. The pan bearings on the set up I took off were destroyed so I was very pleased with myself.

But oh dear the 33 now looks very mean with toe out and is undrive-able. Then I realized the pans etc are left and right. As I chucked the old ones into the spares bag. How do I tell the difference when they are not on the car? Embarassed

That is when looking at the car, not sitting in it. Smile I remember driving a series 2 back from Alex Poulter's once and it felt horrible round corners. Looked underneath and found one of the spring pans facing the wrong way with the spring doing gymnastics to fit Shocked Exclamation
I should add, it wasn't Alex who fitted it.

Hey John,
what springs are they?
Usually the tightly bound coils are fitted to the top, idea being that they compress under load.
How's it drive like now

Oh poo. They are spax. Have not driven it yet. I know I have them correct way round as the car sits correctly now. I will swap them round and bow to your knowledge.

This is the beauty of this forum.
Thanks

The springs came with car and had just been fitted. But the car needed lots of work before my son and I were happy for him to drive it, depsite having an MOT.

I welded in new sills and and rear valance sections. Put new calipers on and fitted new clutch. We had / have lots of spares from collecting, gifts and the fact he rolled his first 33.

Thanks, guys. I was lucky enough to be able to spend lots of time practicing using the mig from where I teach.

But it was also driven by the fact I madly promised to get a 33 back on the road after my son rolled his and was heart broken. See the tread dead car back on the road started by Alex. With out his help at different points ( and Pete at alfa sud parts). I would not have had some of the the bits to do it.

Also this forum has helped me sell some excess spares to help fund the running of the 33. I think Ian you had an axle off me.

Front suspension now sorted. Thanks for all your help. The springs were obviously in the wrong way when I bought it. Ride better now but still firm for good cornering.

Now on to the back.
