Hello all - and Merry X-Mas.

My fuel gauge intermittently functions. ie at one stage it was like a sound sensor going from no fuel to full. How can I check / rectify the problem.

It is Italian! It is there to indicate that you have a fuel tank which may or may not have any fuel in it. Only when stopped or motoring on a level plane will it give you any indication of fuel levels and even then it depends on its mood.

i dissagree with all of you.

my car has a fully working fuel gauge just like on other fully working modern cars. if i only put a small amount of fuel in then the dial only moves a bit, if i fill it up then it moves to the top. i never have a problem with it and i would think that the sender has got rust or other crap in it that makes it stick.

take the fuel tank out and remove the sender. clean the tank out and clean the sender unit while you are at it. should solve the problem.

No way dude, are you telling us your fuel gauge needle doesn't swing around when you accelerate and brake? You can practically see the fuel sloshing in the tank by watching the needle move. I bet that when these cars were being sold in the showrooms, dealers had to fill the tanks right to the brim so potential buyers wouldn't ask why the fuel indicator was so lousy. Razz

yeh it doesnt move about at all when driving round corners, speeding up/ slowing down. if i park on a hill it goes a bit one way or the other, but never when driving.
it just seems to head for the empty side of the dial at a steady rate directly linked to how hard and for how long i use the pedal on the right. weird.

Hi Luke,
there is little difference between normal fwd AR33 and ours P4, we have somewhat different shape of tank. What seems to be strange P4 usually don't have problems with sender unit, but have with fuel return hosess.

One of fuel return hosess just starts to leak. I have been trying to fix that for almost a year with no succes, replacement hoses for injection just manage to last for month or two before starting to leak, and original part is hard to get here.
