I don't think there is one for that model, is there? It just bolts onto the engine block IIRC.

There is a type of thermostat housing that opens up so that you can place the actual thermostat inside. I guess that might need a gasket?

I've always wanted to get one of those thermostats but i think they are a different shape as they were/are used on suds and the hoses might not fit???

All the best

Hi

Not sure the part number will do you any good. They date from long before Alfa dumped their old parts numbering system (which made sense) and went to Fiats system (which is pretty random).

Think it was used on all the old Suds and the like.

All the best

Keith

Guys!! The part number I quoted was for the thermostat that comes apart!!!
I found this out when I went to collect it DOH!
I had to speak to the guy’s boss to get him to refund me.
When I ordered it, I gave the guy that part number thinking it was the complete housing and asked him to double check it as it is a part number to both fiat and Alfa. The part number for the sealed unit is
60557407, argh!!! how annoying.
I found out the other part numbers for the thermostats that come apart if anyone’s interested
60503076, part 9 cup
60502976 part 12 cup
60504230 gasket
I now have to get Bianco to order one next week and get it the following week as the place I got it from no longer deal with Alfa!!!

So if anyone needs a thermostat for one of those that come apart, I know where there is one.

I had previously spoken to Alfa shop and asked them to put aside a thermostat for Bianco’s order, with Bianco’s permission, I called Bianco today to see if they had any lambda sensors but no joy and confirmed the order for the thermostat. I called Alfa shop to confirm adding the thermostat to Bianco’s order and they had sold it. FFS, I now have to wait until they get another order in FFS!!
I was thinking of finding the resistance the CTS would put out for normal running temp (80) and just putting a resistor of that value there once I have driven for about 10 miles as my fuel consumption has gone in the way of a sky rocket.
Does anyone know at what temp the ECU stops running at engine cold fuelling and weather i should use the value for normal running temp or just above cold engine temp, this will do any damage?
Thanks

I changed my thermostat recently. The symptoms were low working temperatures like 50 or 60 Celsius when driving and only in heavy traffi could reach 80. Also i didnt had any head and now that it s winter it was most annoying especially when the windshield went blurred.

Ok here are some pics of the procedure...

Here is the old one. Sprint had a little different thermostat but also from a 33 can be installed.

The removal is quite easy , just removing the tubes and unscrew 2 bolts. This is a good opportunity to check the status and replace if needed. I had to change mine...

After that is the installation. I got the time and polished a little the top aluminium to give it a vintage polishing like the altenator.

And the result...

Now the temp is steady at 85 celcious in all conditions and i have heat inside the cabin....

sweet,
I'm loving the polished alternator.
last time i changed one a clip broke, this time i will be prepared.
I noticed you had the open up type of thermostat, why didn't you just get the internal thermostat, do you still have the housings, how much would it be to ship over here?

Hi,

I ordered the thermostat from Allparts automotive in Watford. It came from QH, so i guess any factor that can order from QH can get you one.

I fitted mine today, but haven't put rad back in yet (did cambelts recently)- ran out of time.

You'll probably find you need all new hoses that connect to thermostat too. The only one available from AR is the thinner hose that crosses the engine.

Thanks for the ofer Ian, i might have to take you up on it as we got another call later from CAF saying they cant get it from Allparts and will have to source it elsewhere and hope to get it to us on Wednesday. Could you pre-empt and see if your CAF can actually get it?

Any pics of the pipes??

Good news everyone, it came in today, so i can finally do a coolant flush, then fill up with paraflu eg. Instead of a 50/50 mix, will it be ok to go to 70 distilled water/Deionized water and 30 coolant or 60 / 40 in England, as water conducts heat better? I'm only doing a flush because when the head was off the remaining coolant left in the radiator corroded a little as it went brown from sitting there for a few weeks. I reused the coolant because it was less than 1 year old and still clear, before i mixed it with the rad remains, doh! I will change my header tank back to a nice cleaned 16v screw top one, for originality (bobbber) and finally fit my lambda sensor, now the car will come off choke.
I will have spare hose clips and Iain do you have any spare silicone hose left if i need to buy some, wink, wink, post those loverly pics up here as well please.
