Hi all,

Rebuilding an AC system from scratch, needs bench testing. So a video is worth 1000 words

Some slow progress today included:

- Removal of the old evaporator wiring
- removal of the non working car alarm
- installation of heat shriking tubes in the vehicle wiring where the alarm was fitted. There were wires that had the insulation cut off during the installation of the car alarm back in 1991.
- cleaning the bulkhead area from all the years of dust and dirt
- new evaporator wiring installation

Next phase of the installation includes trial fitting the evaporator in order to correctly measure coolant hoses length, fitting the condenser fans wiring and most probably remove the vehicle wiring (alternator/starter, headlights, rad fan, foglights etc) in order to install new PVC tubes and split canal.

Still waiting from the AC shop to deliver compressor shaft seals, and alloy tubes. These parts missing have slowed down the project a little bit but we are able to tackle other issues in the meantime.

any update on your A/C?

Are you using a 126mm pulley to drive the compressor?

Hi,

Not much update on the AC installation apart from the shaft seals installation on the compressor. The allloy tubes have been manufactured and just fitted to see their final position.

Evaporator and compressor are still waiting us in order to be installed.

Hoping to get something done in the near future. Cold weather and personal timing is a key feature for such projects unfortunately.

The pulley used is the standard one fitted in the factory. Series 3 cars not fitted with any accessory (PAS, AC) had single groove pulley whereas PAS fitted cars with not necessarily AC had 3 groove pulley installed.

Are you fitting A/C to a non A/C car or an already equipped one?

Actually it is an AC system overhaul. We have gathered parts from a second AC fitted car, and combined these parts with the original parts.

The AC was dealer fitted and some things were not installed correctly like proper wiring routing, horns location and such.

The original AC featured a mechanical thermostat - we converted it to electronic thermostat with the help of the parts from a donor car.

Hope this helps.
