Hi
Only time it does it to me is having reversed out of the drive. Start it and leave it idling for a bit before reversing and it is fine.
Probably does need the throttle bodies balancing though.
All the best
Keith

as bobbber would say, air leak, air leak, air leak? Do you get start then stall sometimes?

Hi
The system needs high fuel pressure for the car to start, so not going to be a case of the fuel draining away.
That said, my P4 does a similar thing sometimes. Starts and idles fine, accepts throttle no problem, but regularly stalls once I have reversed out of the drive and go to change to first.
All the best
Keith

Have you checked the throttle body balance Al? Mine used to bog down when cold really bad until I adjusted it.
hey lee, yup i did that not to long ago with a synchrometer
I have new rotor arm and dizzy cap, i will fit them tomorrow morning and see if that helps.
Dirty injector, wouldn't it happen all the time though?
Another symptom is that when starting it idles really low and then very slowly starts to rise to proper idle speed after about 30 secs, idle valve? I was thinking of cleaning it with wd40. Dont think the idle valve has anyhting to do with bogging down when cold under load?

Al,
With the fuel injection, does the fuel tank and lines get pressurised?
Could be perished rubber seals on the fuel cap????
Cheers

not very, there are no gradient markings as its a side street. when my handbrake had just been adjusted 1 click was enough to hold the car.

Can you check the fuel filter before and during cranking for volume?
I have heard that these fuel filters are a PITA.

Al,
Fuel draining from the lines back to the tank?
Can you check the fuel filter before and during cranking for volume?
If it's the cold affecting it... Then move.
May I suggest this place?

Post subject: 16v bogging down when cold
Hey guys, I used to park my car facing downhill but now face uphill.
The car starts, idles and fast idles ok. when i go to pull away it bogs down and i have to keep the revs up quite high.
Is this normal? I used to face downhill so it might have always done this but I never noticed.
Any ideas?
