How did you get on with Phil Ward then John? He emailed me shortly after your 33 was featured to see when mine was coming out of the bodyshop. I replied but not heard anything since. He said he may be interested in doing a feature on my sw along with Rich B's 33, showing the 2 of them throughout the bodyshop process. Must say i have read your article in Auto Italia twice John, lovely car you have there. |
Hi Alex,
The more good press the 33 gets the better. I don't plan to flog mine, but increased values would be good, as long as the few parts we can get don't go thru the roof.
IMO Phil's the kind of bloke that calls a spade a spade. He said he didn't much like 33's, the key is on the wrong side, and you hit your hand on the handbrake when engaging reverse! Michael's a good bloke with a great job and very personable.

You put extra wax/polish on that day! Couldn't tell in the magazine... but these pictures show you have no finger prints left... from polishing too much! |
No just a wash and vac the day before, so it's mainly down to clever photography, posh camera and probably software! My conclusion is that the gleaming Ferraris, Massers et al you see on the cover probably aint that perfect either

There's also a cracking photo of you at the wheel of your 33 on the inside cover! You look like the coolest thing ever!

Didn't feel that cool, that was concentration. I was about 3' from Michael Ward hanging out the back of a new scooby impreza!
The mrs still wasn't that impressed, even when I said I was on a page next to stirling moss (who?)

Not a great deal written about the 33 as you say John, although the bit you said (the "owners comments") was good. There's also a cracking photo of you at the wheel of your 33 on the inside cover! You look like the coolest thing ever!

I got one too (Woking WHSmith). They had a few coipies I think. Also you can order this and back copies from www.auto-italia.co.uk or call 0208 655 6400.
Not much said about the 33 apart from a few pokes at the 33 saying it lacks..."any real charm inside or out" and some other criticisms. Although the mag did say that the 16v boxer engine remains a "delight" . Wonder what they'll make of the 8v boxer engine...?
Obviously these guys don't know what it is to be a real Alfaholic ! Good effort for getting it in the mag though!

Wasn't sure what constituted a 'mint' picture, but there are plenty of mint alfas about- when i say mint, it's that they have a fu**ing great hole in 'em.
Anyway has anyone got hold of Auto-italia yet?? Went to one whsmiths who don't do it anymore, and the 'big one' in Watford who still had last months out- I even paid to park

All this talking about exotic cars makes me want to take all you guys to my work, we got them all there. I've got a mint picture of my 33 sw next to a blue Zonda, when i showed it to Paul i loved the way he said that the sportwagon is the rarest out of the 2! although a tad cheaper!! |

I laughed the other day when I watched Top Gear (can't remember if current or a "Dave" one) when the McLaren F1 basically beat the pants off the Bugatti Veyron. It was only at the VERY top end that the Veyron got in front.
So for all intent and purpose (at least in any scenario you could imagine in the real-ish world) - the F1 is a quicker car.
