I just double checked wth VOSA and they confirm 0.5 idle and 0.3 fast idle. He said if a garage disputes this, then ask them to refer to the "in service exhaust emisions book"
http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/repository/7.3%20Emmissions%20-%20Spark%20Ignition%20-%20Passenger%20Cars%201992-2002.pdf
http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/images/15th%20edition%20emissions%20data%20-%20section%201%20csv.csv
I think the emission tester i have been using expect 0.3 on idle??
He suggested that if an email is sent to
enquiries@vosa.gov.uk
they can search back through to see if the standards have changed over the years and if they have then Alfa Romeo have to inform them that they are incorrect.

Bobbber,
I know, i know.
Just taken a 145 light out, and it looks beyond saving.
145 parts seem to be just as hard to find as 33 ones, no-one seems to have good used ones and alfashop don't even have new ones in stock (at £116 each!!!)
10 days ago some drunken c*nt fell on the renault clio bonnet in the road, and i'm having a hell of a job to find a used one of them too. Insurance excess is £250, and was hoping to get a bonnet for about a ton and fit it myself. The po-leece couldn't give a damn as expected.
Still thinking about Gaydon....
Cheers,
John

What is it with you and headlights? You got a problem you want to share with the forum?

The 145 failed the MOT today on headlight aim, both sides. The tester tried to play with them, but the adjusters are seized. on a quick look they seem to be completely knackered and the refectors move about!
Anyone got good any 145 headlights?

Hi,
Talking about MOT's, mine passed today with flying colours
CO on fast idle was 0.00% and on nat idle 0.08%
Guess that new(ish) cat is still doing it's job nicely.

Hi
Not as quick as the Bandit. But the Bandit has abotu 40hp more at the back wheel.
Best from the Bimota is 176.5mph. Best from the Bandit is 181.8mph.
All the best

With the last 155 when it failed on emissions we took it for a thrash. About 5 miles in 3rd gear at the red line then straight into town to the MOT station.
All the best
Keith
And did it pass Keith? Did it have an engine left?

I took it for retest today, failed, same co
Car is looked after and only does 30 miles a week, if that and it is a 30 mile motor way trip. I NEVER take the RPM’s above 2.5k – 3k until temp is at 80 degrees.
Thanks, I put some stuff in which is only available to trade £10 and did an Italian tune up from Brighton to Peas Pottage and back at 4k rpm.
I have tested the lambda sensor with an ecu diagnostics, no other errors came up and lambda was doing its thing within range.
I have new Original bosch HT leads, 2 are new other 2 were new as of Nov.
New platinum spark plugs were also fitted Nov.
Lambda sensor was new 1 or 2 years ago.
Lambda sensor was cleaned 1 – 2 months ago.
Oil was done Nov.
Oil filter was done Nov.
Oil was at correct levels.
Coolant was at correct levels.
Oil breather system was cleaned out Feb. and is still clean.
k&n cone air filter was cleaned and re-oiled 2 weeks ago.
Cleaned dizzy cap and rotor last week.
New stainless steel exhaust pipe work welded onto end of cat back, was told cat looked complete and ok.
Alfa garage said find a tuning place with an old style co2 meter.
Took it to a place that does krypton tuning, they said there is no adjustment on my system, only idle mixture.
Found a place that has old style co2 meter, Tried different airflow meter, hydrocarbons were too high. I replaced original air filter and box, no difference.
Other garage said try readings before and after cat and try new lambda sensor (even though its working properly??)
Most garages have said that if cat was not working it would read in the 3.00 – 6.00 instead of my 0.41
I’m beginning to loose that Alfa joy now, need help

Apparently giving the car a good 10 minute ragging beforehand can help to pass the emissions test. I've heard it from numerous places/people. Just a thought.

Well the MOT tester was willing for me to try and complete the original emission test. I thought I had fixed the leak by replacing the original alfa jubilee clip, but it was the header tank Doh! So I had to stop again. I didn't get a chance to get it really hot, plus the exhaust place I took it too put silicone around the holes, I don’t know if that would make a difference. So I will re-use my cat and cross my fingers. I now have 10 working days to do it.

Thanks. Im still alive and breathing, although it felt weird for a while.
I replaced that factory fitted jubilee clip and disconnected the radiator temp sender and fan several times to clean the contacts.
It won’t be a full retest, only the emissions will be tested again, as that’s all it failed on. I hope it doesn’t overheat again. Maybe I should run it with the header tank cap off so it doesn’t get to high a pressure build up.
I thought that the boiling temp is lowered if at a lower pressure, as in high altitude when the boiling temp is lower. Does the same thing happen at high pressures and boiling temp lower as well?

Best of luck for Tuesday.
£25 for a retest isn't bad...most places charge the full amount as it's classed as another test after 24 hours.

FAILED on EMMISSIONS
I forgot that I was unable to re-tighten the manifold/cat gasket, when I tried to get it off last time. The tester was unable to let me tighten them up during an mot. He let me try at 4k rpm and then........ Steam everywhere. The pipe to the header tank sprung a leak as the temp was way up there. The fan did cut in but maybe a loose connection prevented it from working earlier. Mind you 4k rpm just sitting there with no air flow.
The tester asked if I want to stop the test but I said no, so it only failed on emissions.
TAFFE1st fast idle test - Limits - Actual Values - Results
Engine RPM - 2450/2950 - Manual check - Not Tested
CO % VOL - 0.30 - 0.42 - Fail
HC ppm VOL - 200 - 21 - Pass
Lambda - 0.97/1.03 - 1.01 - Pass
Then the water leek happened
TAFFENatural idle test
Engine RPM - 750/950 - Manual check - Not Tested
CO % VOL - 0.50 - 65.53 - Not Tested
TAFFEOverall Results - Aborted
How is the lambda reading obtained? I didn’t see him connect anything to the diagnostics connector, unless i missed him, or do they put in a manual reading? It said the same last year. My alfa garage said its possible a faulty lambda, but its within limits??
If garage does the work, then retest is free, who knows what their labor charges are, i forgot to ask, as they didn’t have any mechanics free, or £25 retest if work is done else where.
So I let my car cool down, topped it up with hot water, no leaks??? New jubilee clip needed I think. I think I may have poisoned myself as I took in a lung full of coolant steam.
So off I went to find that gasket that I couldn’t get last time. I ended up getting any old 50mm gasket, new copper nuts and bolts and a very nice man at a garage angle grinded off my old nuts and bolts, made this gasket fit, fitted the new copper nuts and bolts and filled all the little holes up.
I was not expecting him to do that, i just asked him if he thought that the gasket i had would fit.
How surprised was I? He didn’t want anything for it?
I had to give him beer money.
So retest set for Tuesday, I wish there was a place that did free emission testing, hmmm as my test was aborted, the mot garage actually hasn’t done a test.
I will clean lambda probe again.
Thanks for your input guys.
