Yeah i thought Paul did kind of shotgun the answers out, good tactics for a free drink!
It was repaired but the owner didn't have time to do it properly. All i could do was to ring my friendly windscreen fitter guy, (who is amazing as Paul can verify, he fitted the screen in your P4 Paul with the modified wider seal) he removed the screen, cleaned up behind there & re fitted the glass with a new seal. |

All good guesses guys, but all wrong. The cause was in fact the bottom of the windscreen!! it wasn't bonded in place so it was rubbing on the top of the dash area. Serious rust had got under the screen & all the bonding solicone type stuff had vanished. |

Sorry did I say Gordon Brown, you must forgive me. I'm always getting the words 'squeak' and 'shit' mixed up.
Come on Alex, put us out of our misery. |

A squeaking squeaky thing, loose wheel, brake assembly, loose wing, a stray sheep jammed in the suspension, a broken spring, bumper assembly, loose horn, a stray tool, a lost aural hallucination. I give up, put us out of our misery. |

I'm affraid so Jeremy. Actually I'm getting used to it now after 5ish months.....Could still do with that pint though!
I like your Gordon Brown idea although I'd be more inclined to think that would cause an annoying whine.

I drove a friends s3 16v today to try to locate the cause of a squeak when going over bumps. It seems to be coming from the n/s/f corner. I went straight for the lower ball joint, greased it up, lubricated as many moving suspension parts as i could see & went out for another drive. Squeak still there!!
After a short while of head scraching we solved it! I was very surprised by the cause, I'll buy anyone a pint if they get it right, get guessing guys.
(only clue i'll give you is it was indeed coming from the n/s/f corner of the car). |
