It could simply be poorly tightened plugs. I had this on my old Abarth - you could see bubbles coming out from around the plugs where small amounts of oil were deposited - a friend merely re-threaded ... |

Are you sure also that there is no air in the system? Does anyone know if there is an air bleed valve/screw on the cooling system anywhere?

Could be built up crankcase pressure. Look inside the oil filler, and undo the screw.
Then check the gauze for signs of clogging.

I am thinking about giving the contacts in the AFM a clean, i have not done it before - is it simply a case of cutting the silicon and levering thetop off and then re-siliconing after a clea ... |

the sensor for the dashboard temp indicator is 100% sure the one between cylinders 1&3 as I had to renew the connection because of a dashboard indicator going bananas from time to time. ... |
