Hi all,
Next thing on the list for my Sud Ti - the front left hub is very rough sounding, I presume that the bearing is in bad shape. In the past I've just changed the whole hub over for spares that have been in better condition. What is the alternative, can the bearing be replaced as a home job or does it require specialist tools? If I pull the hub off and take it to my friendly Alfa repairer will they be able to do it for me?
cheers,
Evan. _________________ http://www.trofeoalfasud.com

Hi Evan,
You will need to remove the hub carrier from the car. This disconnects from the driveshafts, strut, and transverse arm.
Once disconnected, the bearings may need to be pressed out. New ones may need to be pressed in. A good suspension shop should be able to do this for you.
Invest in a Haynes manual or Autobooks manual. (find one on eBay) they are worth the money.
Best to leave this sort of work to a shop.
By the way, front bearings are available on Ebay UK right now, relatively cheap.

They need to be pressed out and in.
I usually strip of the hub assembly and head of down to the nearest garage that can press out the bearing and fit the new one. |
