Clutch slave cyclinder overhaul??

Whilst pulling the bits off my 1988 1.7 8V I found the clutch slave cylinder is leaking.

Anyone know of a UK supplier for overhaul kits for the clutch slave? Are they straightforward to do?

Whilst I'm about it, what about supply of original (Valeo?) clutch disc?

I had this problem once and just bought a new one...alot simpler than an overhaul Wink Laughing

Hi,

My clutch slave cylinder used to leak for some months without being able to trace the leak. When I finally found the suspect I bought an overhaul kit consisting of two rubber rings and a boot and within a few hours I had the car operational.

The difficult part was to take the cylinder out since many things block the way. The overhaul is a simple and cheap job - the kit costs around 6-7€

It has now been 3 years since the overhaul and no leak problem so far.

Gritsop,
did you remove the entire unit or only the interior parts? My cylinder is leaking and to do an overhaul I have removed the locking ring but the cylinder unit is stuck really hard. How did you push it out?

I have been able to remove the pushing pin but not the piston, the spring and the seals.

Hi,

I had removed it completely and I now recall that I had also problem in getting it out.

I had sprayed loads of WD40 and at last i removed it by pressing the clutch pedal Wink being without the lock ring.

Also use a wood piece in order to keep the clutch lever in a middle position so that you don't have trouble when you refit the cylinder.

Still trying to find a clutch slave cylinder overhaul kit - can anyone advise a supplier in the UK? I'm getting a bit desperate - thanks. Sad

A replacement cylinder is £36 sterling from A-R or £27 sterling from local parts house. I'd prefer to spend less than a tenner and overhaul.

The best solution is going to an Alfa garage...
They sell overhaulig kits... The part number for an ATE slave cylinder kit is 60750512 and for Benditalia 9950091...

Well, I was unsuccessful with the Alfa Romeo franchises I tried in the UK. So, being too much of a skinflint to spend £26 UK pounds plus VAT, I took apart the (badly leaking) slave cylinder, stripped it down, cleaned it up and hand-honed the cylinder - put it back together with all the original bits.

Once I finish the gearbox overhaul and get it all back together I may regret it....but it looks pretty good now it is cleaned up, and the internal rubber parts appeared to be in good order - just some pitting and ridges on the bore and dirty.

Forget the Alfa dealer, just go to a good autoshop. I got a new cylinder for £26 but they could have sold me a kit for about half the price. I decided on a new one as I wasn't sure of the make of the old one!
