This doesnt seem to be a big problem but it is a bit annoying and I don't see a reason why it should happen.

Why does the alternator light stay on until you rev to +-1500 rpm just after you've started the car?

After going up to 1500 it doesn't light again even if the rpm drops back to idle.
Why does this happen??

When the light is on you can also see the lights are a bit dimmer and everything electrical doesn't seem to get enough power.

I've seen this in 2 more series 3 besides mine.
Isn't it a bit weird?

Same thing happens to my 33.Unless i rev over 1500 it does stay on.It might have to do with the relay in the alternator.I am used to it so i doesnt bother me anymore

AFAIK it's factory feature, it has to be that way. I once knew why and it made perfect sense, but I don't any more Sad. Something to do with protecting electrics.

Hi,

According to the manual and specifically the BOSCH alternator, it is clearly stated that output starts at 1500 rpms.

Probably it has to do with the voltage regulator since receiving more current than in 1000 rpms it switches the supply from the battery to the alternator.

It is normal.

Regards

Hi... Very Happy
All my 33`s did this... Confused
Always thougt about it, as character.... Laughing Laughing Laughing
BUT...(there`s always a but), when turning on, several electrical acessoires, the light MUST remain off.
On an previous S2, the light would start to glow (not completly on).
Changed the voltage regulator (rebuilded the alternator also), and everything back to normal.. Cool

hope this helps
