|
|
Hi.
I bought an IMOLA 1.4 IE that needed some repairs.
Needed the crank.
I replaced the crank, all the bearings, gaskets, etc...
After that, i started it, left it workin at idle for almost an hour, for lube.
Every time i start to open the throttle, it starts knocking very loud, and i has no power at all.
After a couple of metters it just dyes.
I start it again and it goes fine.
Only when accelerating.
I noticed a spark going from the alternator( the battery charger, dont remember the name ) to the engine when i accelerate. Bad ground wiring?!?
If i disconnect it the spark stops.
At idle, smooth 800rpms and silent.
Any ideas ?
ECU? Ignition problems? _________________ Carpe diem!!

Have you checked the compression?
It seems that the car is on 3 cylinders.
Have you changed the plugs? The plug cables? Check also your distributor and rotor arm. Check the timing...

Probably... Clean up the main gound on the engine (near the starter motor)...
Good Luck

P.S.- 800Rpm seems a bit low for idling on the 1.4 IE engine. However someone else can confirm this, as i´ve got no experience at all with 1.4 Marelli equiped cars... _________________ All'interno della mia macchina, vi sedete, tenete sopra e CHIUDETE IN SU... |

Thanks Paulo.
It's a different knocking, a metalic one, like if i didnt replaced the bearings...
About the ground issue, i'll make new ground connections to check if that's the problem. _________________ Carpe diem!!

hi,
on boxer engines, most of the times replacing bearings is not enough, as soon as you can hear the noise from the bearings it's too late you have to replace connecting rods too as these wear very quickly when there's play in the bearing.

Hi Baiones...
Why dont you "junk", that engine, and fit a "new" one?
I`ve got a 1.3 carb version, only problem is that, the engine is still in the car...
If you need it, take it... the only parts that i need from that car are the radiator, starter motor, alternator, and several pieces of interior trim...
The car has no papers...
The engine works (worked last week-end), and makes no noises...
All the best
