Matthew
The spoiler is purely decoration. It is heavy and blocks rear vision.
Leave it off is my suggestion.

Hi Matt,
I'm in the other camp!
I agree with Ken in that it is heavy and as useful as a chocolate teapot but think it makes a huge difference to the look of the car
I put one on mine which is also silver. Pics are on Bobbbers alfa restoration site, it may help you to make up your mind
One thing to bear in mind is the condition of your tailgate struts....if they struggle now then you'll be using a broom handle to keep it open if you decide to put one on |

I'm also for it:
1. I don't agree with them that it's pure style, take 33 beyond 100mph with and without it and tell me about stability.
2. If properly mounted:
- it blocks rearview a bit, but also light coming from headlamps from car behind you
- is shows where your car ends precisely, you can see (if tall enough) end of it and park at less then incha away from wall, lamp post... anything that is taller then spoiler.
Downside of it is that "gas lifters" on 33 without spoiler are not designed for that extra weight, so you might also take a look for pair of extra lifters when original ones go. _________________ Tino Vatavuk

Hi
I think its a personal taste.
On Series 3, i would live well without spoiler. The car looks well with it, but if it wasnt there i wouldnt bother much.
On series 1/2, the car looks improve with the spoiler.
And yes, my s3 is an 16v QV, so it has the spoiler, but like i said before, i wouldnt bother if it didnt.
The main problem, is that it blocks rear vision, but the s3 hasnt much of that to start with
Put it on and see for yourself. If you like it, keep it, if you dont...
All the best

Hi,
My '93 16 vlaver came without. Alfa were apparantly trying to make the car less 'boy racerish' 'cos of mad insurance prices in 92-93.
I added one, and feel it makes the car complete!

Here you can see the effect on rear vision of the spoiler on the 33:-

I put a spoiler on my series 1, then got a zender kit and lowered the car to sit 100mm off the ground. I have now taken the spoiler off the car, and in my opinion, it was the best thing i have done regarding the asthetic appeal of the car. So now i have a spoiler sitting in my garage, with absolutly no intention of using it. However my car is a series 1 with a zender kit. Without the kit or the lowering i think the spoiler does aid its appearance. |

dunno about Alfa's but I know on my old S14 200SX, when I took the spoiler off it made it feel dangerously unstable above 120. |

I thought the spoiler on the 33 was just cosmetic? Might be wrong though. I know some of the later models didn't have them as standard.

Hi
There is a difference between the spoiler and a wing.
One is to increase top speed, one is to provide down force.
All the best

Even brand new struts aren't able to cope! |
