What's the exact procedure? What parts are needed besides a new clutch? Think I'll get a workshop to do the change, but any ideas how much time it should take so I have an idea of the cost?

What I do (a few hours ago !!) :
- remove engine from down
- disconnect the gearbox
- replace clutch, mecanism and bearing (I bought the full kit)
- remove the flywheel (hard to unlock the screw !!)
- replace the main end bushing
- check and replace slave cylinder
- replace the fork that was not anymore centered and worn abnormaly the slave cylinder
and reassemble everything.

I should say 8 hours job but it is just my opinion.

Ciao

To remone the flywheel bolts, bolt a nut and bolt through one of the securing holes in the bell housing and wedge a 'v' of metal (just bend a bit of 3mm flat bar)between the bolt and the teeth in the flywheel. Always use new flywheel bolts. ps don't catch it if it drops

Just a tip he found out. Stops you from crushing your fingers between the flywheel and the ground.

Hi,

Does it really take 8 hours to replace the clutch on 16v???? I've got my replacement schedulded for monday and money isn't rolling in (become unemployed). I was told that it would take about 3.5 hours, maybe up to 5 hours max, to replace it. I really need to replace it because it's horrible to drive in heavy traffic (jumps alot), otherwise I wouldn't be wasting precious money.

all the best

Then I guess they would not take the engine out and that means they know how to do it with necessary tools (gearbox lift).

In that case, this is a realistic figure for well trained people with the correct tools.

So that's a clutch kit, a main end bearing, slave cylinder, fork and fork pin? It all sounds a bit too tricky for my mechanic skills, but as long as I now what is needed.

Five hours is about right to do clutch.
Can be done by just removing gearbox.
Any garage that knows what it is doing should take no longer than that.
