Anyone out there breaking a P4? My car has the 'knock' quite bad, had it looked over and the viscous coupling and mounts seem ok, but the propshaft and its mounts are on the way out. Anyone help? |

If there isn't piece of prop shaft missing or bearing mounting circle holes haven't become elipse, there is no need for change of propshaft.
You should be able to buy cross-joint bearing and change them. Their price was around 50€ few years ago, and there are 4 of them, 1 on each end of each prop shaft. _________________ Tino Vatavuk

Your right!
I am kicking myself now as I saw a propshaft mounting on ebay yesterday, i put in a bid but someone beat me too it in the last few seconds. So, its the mounting I am after and apparently Alfa dont do them anymore, so if anyone knows where I can get one that would help me out a great deal!
Thanks for your help tvatavuk, much appreciated. |

Welcome to the club.
Every single day there is new article that Alfa doesn't do anymore and we P4 owners are 1st on list.
from top of mind:
- fuel tank
- viscous coupling mounts
- front springs
- front shocks

Tino,
Just about to collect my 3rd P4, but one thing....
How are the front shock and springs different from a normal series 3?

Hi Ed,
I think the P4 front struts have three bolts the normal 33 has four.

Hi Bob - (me lover),
Is that right - I thought it was a fair few of the later series 3 that had the 3 bolt design for the struts. Almost like the last 6 months of the production run?? I can't remember on my original P4 having the 3 bolt design though.
Often the P4's do seem low at the front - I was wondering if it was perhaps a shorter spring???
I am due to pick up this new P4 on Sunday - so I can probably have a look then. _________________ The faster the better. |

Edward,
All 33s from 90-92 had 4 holes, while 93-94 had 3.
All P4/Q4 had what is known as Sport suspension, there were also S versions of 33 FWD series 3. It was modified shock that had lower spring mount and spirng. That's reason why P4 has such low front.
Sometimes mid 92-93 factory started producing all 16v 33s with modified shocks that had lower spring mounts, but not as low as P4.
For picture 2thingy" look at top of page for menu, in second row click on Profile and then scroll down to Avatar control panel. _________________ Tino Vatavuk
