Hi folks, was wondering if the rear doors on a series 1 33 1986 are the same as a series 2 1989, A botched repair by previous owner has forced me to replace this door on my 1986 model, also will the rear hatch of the later model fit the earlier 86 model ??

Even series 3 doors will fit though you'd have to change the trim. Series one and two hatches are interchangeable, though some will have wipers and others not, but series 3 hatches will not fit.

My dearly departed spare parts car had a series 1 rear door with the series 2 interior door trim, and it didn't really work - the mounting points for the armrest are different, and I seem to recall some difference in the locking/unlocking mechanism. Perhaps no central locking, perhaps the latch/knob to lock/unlock the door wasn't the same. But if you can live with using the right interior door trim for the door, you'll have no problems with the door physically fitting on the car.

Hi,
I think that the series 1 had teardrop shapes for the internal door locks while the Series 2 have the normal pull knob thingy's, so different holes.
Also some differences with the external trim as well.
