All,
I went with Johnboy to SPA-Francorchamps last year, the SPAItalia event. This is basically a very large Italian car gathering with the bonus of being able to book tracktime at arguably the worlds greatest Forumula 1 circuit in Belguim.
We had a great time and promised to go back next year. We had a couple of rooms in a hotel, which worked out quite expensive, although it was nice. With more people we could have booked a local villa which would have worked out much cheaper - and also have the advantage of BBQ, pool, gardens etc...
Now, here's the current situation. I emailed (in schoolboy French) one of the organizers of the event, and although it's usually in the first or second weekend of June 2008 he was unable to confirm the date exactly, due to the potential of other events appearing at the circuit. It's expected the final date will be released in the coming month or so...
SO - I'm after a shortlist of interested people to see if looking out for a villa over there is viable. I understand villas are very much in demand at that time of year - so I'd like to be in the situation where, when they announce the date of the event we can pounce on a nice, but good value place for the weekend.
Johnboy - there is no debate over your name being on this list... you have done NOTHING but constantly talk about it since we went in 2007!
Rich - at AutoItalia day, you expressed an interest... perhaps you want to be included?
Gritsop, Dennis etc... (Our Greek friends) - maybe a word from you guys on here to get the ball rolling?!!??!
Anyone else??? (Stedee... you blew it I'm afraid!)... MarkQ4? Paul?!?! Al?!?!?!
A good turnout from people on here would be great!

Hi all,
My plan is to be on SPA 2008. (Two people at least)
Since I will be travelling to Belgium from Greece by car, I really need to know the event dates in order to proceed booking ferries, hotels etc. in the countries that we 'll pass.
It is a really nice opportunity to meet each other in person since we have only got to know each other via the electronic way.

I don't think there was much in it in the straights... but when we went round corners, your 33 (with it's lightweight) seemed to skip round them, whereas the GTV was like wrestling some cumbersome beast!
BUT - next year, with my P4... I'm gonna rip you apart JT!

There seems to be a lot of people interested already!
Will the TollyTel be open that weekend?!?!? I was also thinking about doing Thursday to Monday or something so we can do some sightseeing, drinking and have the complete two days at the event in the middle (unlike last year where we had to rush off and then drive 500 miles in one evening!)
ALSO - is anyone interested in the float idea we talked about last year!? The idea is we make a rough guesstimate on how much it will cost and then do like a monthly savings thing, direct debit or something, so noone has to worry about getting the money together at the last minute. The missus is an accounts person so she could look after that? Just a thought!

Ok - for the sake of transparency (i.e. not calling this the "bob beer fund"!) - how much does all this cost?
Well... thinking about it - I believe the ferry is approx £80 each car? and the villa is approx £60 each (maybe, I've yet to find this out) and other stuff may be about another £100!?!?! (which I'll get Euros for. For beer, BBQ stuff etc....). I make that a total of approx £240???
You'll each be responsible for the entry fee to SPA, and any racing/grande parade etc... you might want to do as this is bookable over the internet?
It's October now.... so if we started in November, that's 7 payments of £34? Perhaps we do something monthly? I have an account which is unused.... ANYONE wants to do this, I'll be sending a full accounts roundup every month to those involved - so you can see EXACTLY where you are. Let me know.... if you PM me - I'll send a standing order form for this. If people don't want to do this... that's fine too!

Hi,
I agree with Bob since this is a nice opportunity for tourism and sightseeing except the event.
Since I will be coming to SPA from Venice via Milano and Basel, we can arrange to be on SPA Thursday or Friday to do some tourism, attend the event Saturday and Sunday and why not taking the chance to continue tourism on Monday.
Agree guys?? _________________ Thanassis Gritsopoulos
