Hi,

My name's AJ, im South African an today i purchased my first 33.
It's a 1984 1.5L.

I have 2 Giulietta's. The 33 is so different from them it's shocking.
Its a wonderful car, the body is in great condition, really looked after.

Im just a little worried about the mechanicals though.

I noticed a plume of black smoke from the exhaust and the coolant and oil warning lights are constantly on.

Do i have anything to worry about?

I really need to learn about the car.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind Regards
AJ

Where are the coolant and oil warning lights? If you're referring to lights on the 'Alfa Control' diagnostic thingy, you might not need to worry. Wink
Alfa Control is reknown for telling lies.
But obviously, check the coolant level in the reservoir and check the oil level on the dipstick after the car has been parked on flat ground for an hour or so. You don't want your engine to run out of either of these substances.

Does the exhaust constantly emit black smoke? Check air filter, take it for a blast, check spark plugs etc. The car is probably running rich and needs a professional tune - if your 33 is a twin carb model then it's best to always get a specialist with the right equipment to do the carburettor tuneup.

Thanks,

i took it to my mac! He said exactly what you did.
Since i bought the vehicle without a service history, he also suggested changing the cambelt.

Its a single carb model. (damn i wish it was double)

He found that the coolant switch is shot and the oil switch does not exist anymore.

I find the car testing to drive, having driven Giulietta's for the past 7yrs.
I feel that the pedals are too close together.

I must thank you once again for your help.

Kind Regards
AJ
