Hi guys, I have a 33 16v here & it has a quirk that I have come across before in a 33 but never really found the cause. If you start it up from cold & drive it straight away it really doesnt want to go, it splutters, hesitates, pops, gives symtoms of fuel starvation, wont idle properly, you get the idea. However if you let it idle for just 1 or 2 minutes before driving it, all is fine, in fact it goes damn well! I've changed the odvious parts in some hope of stumbling across the cause, but nothing has worked yet. Any ideas people?

Remove the carburettors and put the fuel injection back on! Laughing

(both my cars do that, the dodgy Webers much worse than the rebuilt Dellortos)
(the worst car I ever had for that had the single carb motor, and I put the problem down to the manifold design ruining fuel atomisation)
(listen to it try to idle, let alone drive! www.axys.co.nz/ben/alfa33/partscar.mp3)

hey Alex
I would start with the CTS output when cold and then... and then... and then... try running with the lambda sensor disconnected. Thats if you havent already tried that and assuming that it is injection

It is 16v injection, no carbs, it doesnt have a cat either although it still has a llambda sensor. It is a k reg so it did originally have a cat system, been de catted & gone through 2 mot's since.

Alex, If you get to the bottom of this let me know. Mine's been like it for 6 years and I've never got to the bottom of it and that's with replacing most engine parts over the years.

Could it be caused by condensation in the fuel when you switch the car off and let it cool down perhaps, or does it have the same symptoms when you start the car after a run when it hasn't had time to cool down?.

Glad to hear i'm not the only one with this prob Lee.
Good point Iain, no it only does it after its been left for at least a day, if i drive it, then stop for a few hours it isnt too bad. Fuel condensation is summit i never thought of, you may have hit on an idea there young man!
(When you planning on popping over?)
