Quick question : How much fuss is it to put S3 PAS rack and kit into an S2? (I don't have either model in front of me to see)

I've read the (locked) thread about PAS into Alfasud advice - are the PAS rack bulkhead mounting pounts different as was explained in the 'Sud post?

I presume the kit would be: rack, pump, reservoir, high and low pressure hosing, pump bracket and the correct crank pulley to run the extra belt.

Did AR ever fit PAS to the S2, outside the UK market? Did the 1.7 8v block have the bracket mount points at some stage?

Obviously it would be a reconditioned rack

Thanks

Hi,

S2 cars never had PAS fitted. Therefore S2 engine blocks do not have the threaded support point where the PAS pump bolts to; you also have to check the small "window" where the steering column meets the rack. There is a chance that the S2 "window" is smaller than the S3 which had the PAS designed for.

In case the engine of the S2 33 has been replaced with a unit off a S3 then the job is fas more easy.

Hope this helps,

Regards

I really wouldn't reccommend it. F303DGP had it installed. Non-power steering gives more feel and is far easier to service and takes no power from the engine. Fully sorted the non-power steering really is quite light.
