Hi everyone!

After asking some questions on this list (by the way, thanks for your answers) on carbs fitted on the 33, i've been to some local wreckyards to find some carbs that are in good shape.
I ended up with a pair of dellortos 36 with a 30mm main venturi, from a 1500 series 2.
The wrecked car on which i found them had 44000kms on the clock, and it seems that the carbs are not worn. besides, they have been sitting in the junkyard for a while, and the gaskets need replacing since they're dry. I will order a new gasket set from a local specialist, and while i'm at it i'd like to clean the carbs entirely.
Using a paint brush and some petrol, i've already removed a lot of grease and dust, but i want my carbs to shine and the metal is a little oxidized. I wondered if there would exist some sort of "magical" cleaner, or if i have to polish the exterior of the barrels (with sand?) somehow.
and by the way, would you recommend applying grease on the threads before re-fitting the jets? as well as lubricating the butterfly axle with engine oil?
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

regards

I,ve just rebuilt my carbs (weber 40 IDF) using a weber rebuild kit inc. gaskets, floats, filters etc. I had the same problem with getting them really clean so used alloy wheel cleaner, the srongest stuff I could find. Can't remember the brand but it did a better job than solvent cleaners. You could also try glass bead blasting for the ultimate clean and shine, but it would have been best to that before stripping it down - too much risk of getting grit in channels etc.

good luck, Richard

hi!

thanks for the help!
yesterday evening i went to the specialist where i had ordered my gasket set.
he sold me some acetone, this solvent is very strong and i cleaned the grease this night.
i finished polishing using some very fine steel wool, the finish is perfect!

thanks again
