The engine is in a Karma Dino kit car so there is no ID as to year or type
this is what I know the engine No. starts with AR307300----- it as twin Dellortos and a Bosh electronic distributor, and that's my other question! from the black box on the side of the dissy there are three wires that have been cut the colours and numbers are 1 white,2 black and 3 black and green.
Where do they go to? there is no coil fitted so I need to know what type of coil to fit and what colour goes where, thats if it goes to the coil!
Can anyone help with the wiring and the type and year the Alfa that it was originally fitted in?

Thanks Peter

Sounds like it comes from a pre 1990 alfa, could be a sud/sprint/arna or a 33.
Its an 8v 1.5 as mentioned in your earlier posts as for the wires Im afraid I do not know but the is a wealth of enthusiasts on here. Good luck.

If it had points it will be sud (or early sprint) engine.

Engine code 307, Twin carbs with hydraulic tappets would be a early series 3 33('90-'92) 1.5. Or maybe a 1.3?

Engine codes should be 307 32 for a 1.3 and 307 34 for a 1.5(carb versions).
The 1.5 i.e. code is 307 50. I don't know of an engine 307300.

Yeah, the three wires go to the coil, joining up with similarly coloured wires from the main loom. Black is definitely for earth. Not sure how you define what type of coil it is. Somewhere (??) I have some old ones.

A halloween engine!Laughing

307.34 = alfa33 1.5 105hp (from list on alfisti.co.uk)

Would guess 1984-5 ish

Wires almost certainly go to coil, earth and low tension. Would probably be a pretty standard bosch coil.

The sud/sprint haynes manual will show the wiring for late sud/sprint 105bhp cars in the supplement to confirm. My maunual isn't handy to look.

John

Hy, I vote for eagle3 interpretation,
motor 105hp from 33 1500 40mm twin carb of 1990-92,
(who is for me a better motor of the
early 105hp 1500 of pre '89 series);

because I have a '91 1300 twin carb, code is 307 32,
and very often I use the same spares
of the 1500 twin carb 90-92, code 307 34 'Wink'

Hydraulic tappets started with the series 2 1.7 ie(engine code 305 58 ) and became standard across the range with the series 3 33s(1990).

Thanks for all the ripley's
Still not sure about the wiring!! as there is no Alfa wiring loom to connect to and I don't have a colour coded wiring diagram (as anyone a Haynes manual I could buy?)
I know to take a live feed to the + side of the coil and you say that black goes the earth, so is the black & green, & the white joined together on the - side of the coil?
sorry to sound a bit thick!! but don't want to short out the electronics in the distributor!

All I know is that two white wires (1 from distributor and other from loom) are attached to one side of front of coil, and two green/black wires (1 from distributor and other from loom) join to other side of front of coil.

Thanks Paul, do the white wires go to the + side of the coil?

As I don't know much about the Alfa boxer engine, is the engine type that I have any good, or is the ones with adjustable tappets better?

The one you have is fine I'm sure. They're very similar performance-wise.(105bhp, similar torque)

With the previous engine you had to change shims to adjust valve clearances. At least you don't have to worry about that.

There have been (fairly rare) cases of tappets seizing with the hydraulic version.

I think white wires go to -ve, but it would be good if someone else could verify this.

They all go to coil.

White - rev counter
Green/black - opposite side to White(ignition switch)
Black - earth on side of coil
(not very good at electrics but that's what it looks like on the wiring diagram).

I don't think Haynes did a manual for the 33.

There's one for a sud/sprint which covers the later sprints(based on the 33).
