Sorted this in the end- ignition/fuel 30amp relay 0332014112 (the tin one with a red stripe) dead and the yellow plastic MP 40amp one playing silly buggers.

Car just died, but engine would turn over.

On further testing, no spark and no fuel pump power.

Tin relay tested on the bench and absolutely dead, so changed, however the MP relay tested absolutely fine on the bench but didn't work on the car causing confusion and head scratching.

With the temporary fitment of the HRwindow 30amp relay, fuel pump returned and the car started and ran, so definitely something wrong with the MP relay.

Thanks to an old Bobber thread for location of relays and ideas.

John

The two relays for ignition/fuel are tucked up behind a black plastic cover near the t2 tester socket at the base of the passengerside (rhd) windscreen area under the bonnet.

The 30amp tin one is bosch 0332014112- though now brown plastic!

The 40amp (mustard colour on mine) is MP italy brand, also found on Ducati bikes it would seem and hard to find. It looks as though most 5 pin 40amp relays with the same pin numbers will do. There are loads of cheapos on ebay, but I've just ordered a Land Rover one as the quality looks good.

In a breakdown it would seem the 30amp hr window relay could be bunged in to get you home- that made my car run.

How much did it cost John?
I probably have a spare (though second hand), but thought Alex would've jumped in here.

The 30 amp bosch one was about £12.50 from my friendly factor, the 40 amp one was about £5 posted from ebay- but it hasn't come yet and so is untested as yet Confused

Update- The 40amp relay should NOT be a typical changeover on/on type as this makes the fuel pump operate all the time regardless of ignition etc.

It should be a 'double contact' so the relay switches both 87 terminals live at the same time.

Does that mean the one you've got is no good?
The relay I've got is a long tall one. Would that be correct?

Paul,

I now have the correct 40amp on/off relay and it's all working fine.

Both the 30 and 40amp relays replaced are quite 'cubey' as opposed to tall.

The 40 amp one I got is this- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Relay-12V-40Amp-5-Pin-Double-Contact-Qty-1-/150601215571?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2310882e53#ht_500wt_715
