Well, here's my final post on AO for a while. Can't see anything changing so signed off with a bit of a personal dig a Paul.O who in my mind is a bit spineless. Between him and Paintergirl and a few others there is little room for anything intellectual. Shouldn't have done it really, but feel that I have wasted a day of my life trying to put things right, wish I hadn't bothered trying really. I guess my post will get deleted, but it might survive until morning. Probably get totally banned at some point - but do I really care. It was Paul.O that banned me for a day, but only because he lost an argument and was worried that I was going to expose the issue in pubic forum. It is just a shame that as a individual they resort to playground antics when they feel they have a bit of power. Anyway, promised myself no AO for 10 days! So final post was:

Oh, one more thing before I go..... if anyone was wondering about Admin Helper, next time your innocent post is tampered with, this is what I was told by a mod, just in case you were ever wondering (can't quite remember who it was that sent it) but a bit sad really, anyway:

Hi Edward

Sorry for the delay in replying.

The admin helper is a virtual generated person ( nice picture) and is used as a global message sender.

All moderators when editing posts or actioning reported posts have to confirm there actions which then automatically generates a admin helper message.

paul.o

section moderator.

Oh yes, and please ban me for a day, (you know who you are /were, you have been very quiet, by the way!) or is it 2 next time according to the house rules. By the time I come back I won't even have known. Smile Smile Smile

That community would thrive here too John, if we could get them here.
I don't see anything changing soon or ever indeed. It's been like that for a long time.

I'm done. Can't hack it anymore. In fairness to them, some of the staff are trying.

I'm going to try and start up the 16v, balance the carbs and blow off some steam Laughing

Hello, looks like my web browser remembered my login for this site.

Alfaowner.com is the most randomly yet strongly moderated forum I belong to. I had put it down to it being a reflection of British society.. Wink

I got shot down there once when I started a thread in the rant room, and from that I came to understand that doing dumb stuff is OK, but complaining about dumb stuff is not. They've got a great climate of fear vibe happening in regards to voicing of negative opinions.

Wink Wink

That is a pretty good observation and summary, in my view.

I think Dave Armstrong's post in the now infamous thread, the bit regarding legal action around a data protection request, was about users owning what was in their posts - not the site - and will therefore be a demand to have his data returned to him. I believe it also falls under intellectual property legislation. Sounds like he too wants to take what is his with him when he leaves..

If some of the major contributors do the same, there might not be much left in the sud/sprint/33 section.

It seems to me that the drama all centers on our general inclination as a group to help a fellow owner out when parts are needed, not providing a satisfactory revenue stream for AO owners and advertisers. Perhaps the main reason Shrew was banished from the kingdom?

I was going to point out that at least us lot own 'real' alfas, and not fiat parts bin based sheds with an alfa badge on, but feared i'd already bitten a little too hard on some of the mod's unfathomable replies.

There seems to be a fundamental failure by the people mod'ing the site to understand that website wide rules do not mean the same thing as universally fair treatment for all users.

Personally, i feel this site has always been preferable to AO, just less frequented in recent times. Perhaps that will change a little now? Very Happy

Horse's? They're like cows aren't they, just a bit faster?

Lottery? No, I wouldn't say so as my euromillions ticket went through the wash in my work pants. Doh!

I for one am over the moon at this exodus, I've never had so many replies to a thread I started Laughing

Here's to a new start and good times to come!

Right, how much end float is acceptable on a 1.7 8v crankshaft? Confused

Lash it in jim it'll be grand!

On a serious note the specs should be in the 2 big folders Mark borrowed from me that went with the imola if you still have them?

endfloat specs are the same across all engines iirc. 0.05mm to 0.24mm.
thrust washers are still available with a bit of searching Wink

Hi

Interesting thread.

Suspect AO might have a bit of an issue both as they have got quite large and they seem to have become a bit commercial (no advertising banners on here so zero income to me - just a cost Laughing )

This site is the daddy for 33s and suds but if you like the underdog spirit you'd also be very welcome at the forum at alfisti.co.uk to help knock it into action.

It's almost been deleted as it basically just gets hundreds of attempted spam registrations per week, but a bunch of hardcore alfisti talking cars, oilybits and anthything else really could get it rolling.

If you would like some pointers as to what I have done to try and stop spammers (although here hasn't been bad, another forum I run on the same server gets loads of attempts) then drop me a note. Don't want to put up here what I have done (why help the spammers?) but quite willing to help out.

Well welcome all, our moderators are great guys (I think we have 1 somewhere, hiding in a shed in Wales)

I can add another mod or 2 if required. If so come up with a couple of names who you would all be happy with.

Note this area of the forum can be posted to by guests, while the rest of the forum cannot be posted to by guests.

I noticed that Brit01 wanted a way to upload photos. I might be able to knock up something like that. Already got something that semi works on another forum but I need to clean the code up and make it easier to use.

All the best

Keith

Kev,

can you re-use end float washers if the crank ends up within tolerance?

I assume they are not like bearing shells where the surface is slowly being eroded.

Need to speak to the engine builder shortly and I guess I am going to get asked for a whole load of bits before long. So, may as well be prepared. Smile
