I see all the threads on AO have now been removed Rolling Eyes

Edit they've just removed the link in the boxer section so we just forget about it, until it happens all over again yawn

That is possibly automatic.

A lot of forum software has the option to leave a link in the original area when a thread is moved, with these links automatically expiring after a short time.

All the best

Keith

Well its prompted me to re-appear on here......I've tried to make some appropriate comments over there (where I'm RGWM) but since the "closed" thread has somewhat pointlessly been moved to the Rant Room, and the subsequent "where now" thread - in which I "might" have suggested that the mod had been autocratic in closing the original thread - seems to have vanished without trace....probably soon to be followed by Alfawoots follow-on thread.....I think the drawbridge has been pulled up. Don't hold your breath awaiting any changes on AO.

Although I have little involvement with Suds at present, although I have a Sud and a Sprint as projects, most people will know that I have a deep involvement in anything Alfa - being the AROC Lancashire Section secretary, and an AROC board member, so I'll try to pop in here more often - especially if its going to get busier Wink

Good to be here.

on the other forum the mods and other reps don't even want to talk to me anymore :/

Maybe its because I called them dictators and Adolf Hitlers in public ? Confused

How arrogant can they get over there?
Good to see you chaps here though. The more 'heavyweights' of AO that come will surely bring more.
Cool

It does seem somewhat convenient to move things into the backwater of the rant room and then let the link disappear on a time basis. That way it slowly fades from memory.

Anyway, not going anyway near AO for a couple of weeks - a promise I made to myself. Good to see Chris and others already on here as well as people starting to show an interest e.g lancsbreaker.

I think give it a short while and people starting some decent posts and things will start to come to life a bit more.

Anyway, who knows the answer to my end float question....!!!! Laughing

Wait!
When did it all go wrong over there at AO?

It's been a few years that i was there, but by the looks of it reading all posts here, it sure has changed into something that's not within the real alfa spirit anymore. Shocked

patience dear boy Laughing

as long as the end float is within specs mate you'll be fine. they don't actually tend to get that much wear on them so the originals may be ok.
just make sure to put them back inthe right way though! grooved surface against the crank so oil can sit against the spinning bit Razz

did read once that the thrust washers are very prone to wear on the maser 3200 manuals. seems that when folk jump in the car first off and press the clutch to start the car (don't we all Rolling Eyes ) so the starter has an easier life, it actually causes wear on the thrust washers as the pressure on the clutch/flywheel forces the crank against the washers. which apparently lack oil until the thing starts up. wear pretty quickly without any lube Wink

never heard of it being much of an issue on anything much else though..

apart from the stupid flat 4 vw engines which seem to have endfloat measured in cm's rather than fractions of a mm Laughing

Ok Kev, that is good to know.

Hopefully speaking to the engine builder tomorrow, so should be able to have a conversation about such things hopefully.

The guy always seems to be on holiday - perhaps he is getting paid too much. Sad

I've know it happen on a few 16v TS Alfas - got to the point on one car where it kept popping the belt-end crank seal out...with "hilarious" consequences, as they say......

Ok......

Does anyone know much about 33 versus 145 con rods.

The engine builder I am using told me today that the torque setting for a 33 16v rod bolt are notably less than for a 145/145 (1.7) con rod bolt. His suggestion is that either 145/6 conrods or the bolts are better/stronger.

Does anyone know if this is the case?

Would be good to have the best bolt rod combination for what is going to be a track day engine.

Can you let me know what you know.....

part numbers for con rods, bolts and pistons are exactly the same for 33 and 145/146 boxer so not sure where he got that information from. Its basically exactly the same engine with a few minor differences, most notably the 145/146 has a different ignition system, coil packs instead of coil and distributor. Inlet cams on late 33 16v and 145/146 16v boxer are also different to earlier 16v, something to do with emissions I think

Ahh... that is really helpful thanks.

I am now starting to wonder if he was perhaps looking up a table for the 1.8 and 2.0L 145/146 engines.

He did mention 32-35 ft lb for the 33 16v engine and 37-43 ft lb for the other. That is a marked difference - so I am now beginning to wonder if it is the later (straight 4) engines that he had somehow cast his finger over. Easily done if Alfa engines are not your speciality.

I will ring him and see if that is the potential error.

Thanks, E.

Okay... after a few questions to a few people they are going to be torqued up to 48nm. Fingers crossed...... Smile

correct torque setting for 16v con rod bolts should be 53NM then 58NM / 5.4kgm then 5.9kgm

Those settings come from the Alfa Romeo Direzione Assistenza Tecnica 16v engine manual
