Hi,

I'm having a little clearout and have put this camshaft on ebay:

Item number 251347196837

New old stock in original box and wrap. I've been sitting on it for years.

Cheers,

John

Hi John,

I don't suppose you still have this camshaft - or did it indeed sell on ebay?

Cheers,

Edward.

Hi Edward,

I still have it and was thinking about putting it back on the 'bay. It didn't sell last time but I got some questions/ watchers etc etc.

I must have had it over 10 years now and I've never seen another one for sale.

I've got it on alfaparts where you can see a piccy but I can send you more/ better pics if you want: http://www.alfaparts.co.uk/alfa_boxer/33_parts/detail/alfa-33-16v-inlet-camshaft-86.htm

Price on alfaparts was the ebay start price which is a bargain!

Hi John,

that's a shame. With that part number it is the catalytic 16v inlet cam. If it had been the other one which pre-dated it I would have taken it. There is as you probably now a 5HP difference between the 2 engines and I am building a 1800cc fast road engine and there is little point starting with a - figure. It may not be just the cams, although they are notably different, as it could be the cat and other things that takes power off etc, but I will continue to look for the other ones for a while.

I have a box full of cams but they are all either worn, rusty or all just a bit dodgy.

I may possibly still go for your one - but not 100% sure what I would do with it. Could only perhaps try and exchange it for one of the other ones I am after, as the exhaust cam is the same on both engines.

Will keep it in mind…... Very Happy

Thanks for letting me know.

E.

Edward,

I don't know what the difference is on pre-catted and catted but I'm guessing it was probably for emissions so maybe slightly shorter duration etc or something to make the car leaner and or hotter for the cat????

Power loss on catted cars is mainly down to the cat itself i think??

My catted 33 is running 1 'old' style inlet cam with no ill effects to performance or emissions- they are incredibly low (this was put in in 2001 when 1 head was rebuilt by Alfarama for a burnt valve) so probably very little difference on the cam profiles...

If you think it might be worth a try I can ask my retired engineer father to take some lobe measurements this week if it helps.

Timing. Pre-cat cams have offset lobes and produce more power.
