It's good to see that not only are 33's starting to get half decent prices now but also people are starting to spend cash on sorting them out, instead of scrapping them when they need £100 worth of welding.
A good friend of mine, Alan, has just bought a lovely white 16v (you may have seen it on eBay a few weeks ago), and he plans to spend whatever is needed on it, also Nick in Bristol has just bought a nice red s2 for almost £2000.
If anyone is doing big work on their 33 let's see some pics. Very Happy

Hey Alex, yep looks like the remaining 33s on the road are top quality. Mine has been undergoing a general refresh / transformation over the years. The latest being a full respray (including rust and dents removal). Alan Green and his partner have been overseeing that project and I hope to be able to share pictures in the next few months. Before this I've also done:

- New 16v bodykit (started life as a 1.7 8v IE)
- OZ racing lightweight wheels
- P4 interior plus Nardi steering wheel and Momo gearnob
- Custom headlining
- Custom acoustic shelf plus amp
- Willwood big brake conversion kit with Alfa 75 master cylinder
- Koni shocks + H&R lowering springs
- OMP front upper strut brace
- Poly bushes all round
- K&N cone performance air filter
- custom cat back stainless steel big bore exhaust pipe
- rebuilt 16v engine (Rusper Alfa)
- S2 door handles (to be installed)
- 16v ARB (powder coated in red) - to be installed

I think that's it. It's obvious from the list of mods that I'd never get my money back. Looks like I won't be selling her. My 33 is probably representative of the remaining 33s out there. Most of the ones I see have had the same level or more work done on them. The quality of the remaining stock is high.

My guess is that in the case of the Escorts they probably had higher numbers of cars remaining. They are also a very vocal group with extensive builds so of general interest. We'll need to get a few flamboyant cars like Iain O's in the popular cars mags to get things going I think...

Not big work but I've a couple of 33's that need a new home if anyone is looking. One is an unmolested 5 door, solid but not that pretty, the other is a track car. I've also got a 16v engine with loom that needs to go.

Would be great to go to a fellow enthusiast!

I would be interested in the 16v engine and loom if it is worth saving (price is right as well!). Please let me know.

Well that's difficult to say. I thought it was worth saving at the time, here's the info I've posted;

Purchased this Alfa 33 16v engine & gearbox off ebay and had it delivered straight to A for Alfa in Aylesbury to be fitted into my Alfa 33 track car, never got around to doing anything with it.

Below is the original advert the previous owner ran, afraid I don't know any more about it.

Alfa 33 1.7 16v boxer engine complete with loom, ecu, distributor cap, HT leads, expansion tank, speedo clocks to show mileage from the car it was removed from.

removed from 1990 alfa 33 following accident around 6 years ago, accident was corner to corner and didnt touch the engine. the engine ran after the accident and idled fine, even moved the car about a quarter of a mile!

the engine has had the spark plugs removed prior to storage to avoid them getting seized in the block.

the gearbox complete w/engine & feels like it shifts in to all gears fine though after the accident one wheel wouldn't drive so work on the gearbox being for spares or repair.

exhaust has been chopped off after the 4 pipes

I'm hoping to purchase my 1st 33 next month if all works out, I want the best possible so asked Mr 33 to find me a tidy P4.

I've always wanted one and thought sod it, next year I plan on scratching that Maserati itch so might not have another chance Smile

Mine is a S3 16v. Had it for many, many years (about 15yrs or more). However, I think if I were to do it again I'd go for the S2 Veloce with P4 interior (including Nardi steering wheel and gearknob), 16v engine (with goodies) and some nice (your choice) aftermarket wheels. Also uprated suspension, brakes and stainless steel exhaust system. That's the flavour I'd go for if I were to start again.

Well i think there is a strong community when we are talking of the Alfa boxer engine cars, not comparable with escorts that surely where sold in higher numbers but... who knows!

I do believe that we may possibly have ever so slightly quite possibly gone off subject here.
