Hi

I'm getting fed up of replacing these thermostats which last two years. The replacement is such a mess.
The Alfasud thermostat housing was much better but those are getting difficult to find and aren't a direct fit on the 33.
I have modified a 33 thermostat housing to accept a std bypass thermostat core which will make maintenance work cheaper and quicker.
Pics are below.

Regards,
zp

Hi,
interesting modding, I was curious:
the std bypass thermostat core you can now use
is from some car model or are completely generic spare?

Hi

It's a VW thermostat P/N 068121113D but it is available from a number of aftermarket suppliers.
I use Vernet TH1439.84J with an opening temp of 84° but there also exists a 87° version.

I went a slightly different way.
I had the lip machined off the thermostat, so the top part can pop off and a thermostat swapped out and used a 72 mm Two Piece "French" Exhaust Manifold Clamp.

The OD on the thermostat is 71 mm

Looks the same as the thermostat used in a 75 / spider

I haven't tested it as I am happy with my 2 piece thermostat
