A follow on to my previous question
but firstly thanks to the guys who posted replys to that one!!!!
If am a to build a low compression 16v 33
Would it be better to fit 8v pistons to a 16v
OR 16v heads to an 8v
Excluding the obvious diffrences in heads , pistons ,induction system
What are the hidden differences IE rods, pumps etc???????? |

8v pistons to 16v, if it can be done that way. Youll need a whole new fuelling system though I suspect. _________________ Alfa Sprint QV - Gone to a better home and in happier health for it

The headgaskets on the 8V and 16V are different (extra oil canals on the 16V) and extra oil hoses are coming from the cylinder heads to the oil sump on the 16V.
Therefore it would be easier to put 8V pistons in a 16V than to mount 16V cylinder heads on an 8V engine.

I'm not sure if anyone has answered this before, but ....
According to an article in the german club magazine some years ago, the compression ratio will be 1:8,6 with 8v piston in the 16v engine.
But the only sure way to find out is to do a measure and calculate it yourself.
If you put 8v pistons in a 16v engine I would also be worried if there is enough squish area left (if the piston sits lower in the cylinder). The only sure way to see that is to try.
A little note; as far as I know the oil-pump is also better in the 16v engine. And the spec of the main bolts in the engine.
