Having got the rear screen heateer working again I now have the wipers playing up.
Intermittent stops and starts when it feels like it...when I pull the wash-wipe it will stop anywhere on the screen but at the bottom.
Then when I switch them off they wont return and if they do they do another sweep or two...Wierd
My guess is that it might be water as it started when we started getting rain.
Anyone got any thoughts on what could be causing it?
I know it is Italian _________________ Presntly own

Hi!
Could be the relay (on mine its grey). Its located in the fuse box below the steering column.

Hi Ian
On my series 1and 2s the wiper relays are on the the very L/H corner in front of the screen( a black and a red, the red controls the intermittant) I had to change it on daughters car which was doing what you describe. It certainly fixed it for a while but now it's starting to play up again so I suspect that the contacts at the plug and/or the wipor control may also be a factor.

I've got similar gremlins in the front wipers..
The intermittent setting is only intermittently intermittent. Often intermittent is the same as low speed, but after a while it might do a mix of the two or it might work properly.
Also, when I turn the wipers off mid-stroke, they often struggle to get back to their rest position as if the 'return' system doesn't have enough power.
I checked the intermittence control module thing, and surprisingly the contacts looked clean and even the circuit board had no corrosion. Anyone know where else to look? |

Ive given up trying to sort it.
I just put it down to the 33 being a 33 ...she is a living breathing thing.
Some days she just dont want to cooperate.
Some days she starts up and pulls like a train...sometimes she just doesnt want to pull at all.
So if she doesnt want to flap her arms about in the rain then thats her perogative.
The stupid thing is it only does it when its raining(test it on dry day nothing)
thats feminine logic for you. _________________ Presntly own

Yeah I've got wiper problems too with my sprint. When I brought the car 7 months ago intermittent and slow weren't going at all but fast were so I just left it.
A few months down the track and I go to switch the wipers on and nothing happens! Then after a few mintutes they suddenly kick in?? Now they're not going at all. I suspect it is a relay problem so does anybody have any idea where the relay(s) are located for an 86 Sprint QV? Or is this another problem altogether? Thanks

I've had the exact same problem, and I fixed it accidentally...I was trying to fix the indicator and touched the wiper-relay, and suddenly the wipers started! It appeared that one of the contacts on the relay didn't fit properly, and it was fixed with a little squeeze from a pair of cutting nippers. I've spend hours to locate the problem, and then it appeared to be that simple...Check it before you do anything else!!

Total ditto with Ian M on my P4 project. Luv your reply Ian Has to be the relay really doesn't it in this case. Not sure it is the relay actually as I swapped mine and still got the same problem. Is there another relay? If anyone ever does sort this out please let me know. _________________ Owner's Club 33 Registrar. Now from P4 & S2 1.7 QV

I had the same problem when I got my 33 about 5 years ago. It's basically a question of cleaning the wiper motor and scuttle - a 1 hour job. The connections get dirty with all of the gunge washed down there. Good luck. |
