I have a 1.5 TI Dellort carbed Alfa.
I think something is wrong because sometimes water's light in alfa control turns on. When I open the container it has some press even if it's cold. And if I move a bit the car with my hands I can ear something like bubbles.
I see no water leakeage.
Somebody has told me that it's cilinder head's problem. (Spanish word is culata)
Is this correct? |

Sounds like that could be the problem.
I can't think of any other reason why the cooling system would be pressurised when cold.

It's name is 1000 Euros (blown head gasket & Radiator)
Don't know what to do. Maybe it's time for a new car

Hi,
here in the Netherlands I was quoted 700euro for doing both head gaskets by a mechanic not associated with any car brand. Afla dealer quoted 750euro. Then I decided to do it myself. The parts including oil and coolant refill costed me about 140 euro. If I would have brought the heads to a workshop for polishing/skimming it would have cost me about 60euro more. It took me three days, fortunately the labour was cheap
So if you know how to handle the tools, and you have some "no-risk-no-fun" attitude it's worth considering to do it yourself.
Good luck

If it is not using water then it is not a cylinder head gasket leak. (water to outside or water to cylinder)
If your engine is running OK, is not using water or oil then simply maintain and drive it!
I rebuilt both my own cylinder heads and changed seals, gaskets, etc, and it did not cost 700 euro - do it yourself! |

At last the work will be done by a mechanic not associated with any brand but specialist in alfa's and other "special" brands because i don't know how to do it by myself. First of all don't have a proper place to do it and have no experience in mechanics.
The bill is:
* Oil
* Coolant
* skimming heads (rectificar in spanish i think)
* needed parts
* synchronize carburetors (and repair them: new floats)
* block taps
* work
I think it's a good price... the other alternative was to buy a new whole motor in a junk scrap and put it but didn't know the state of it... |

Is it possible that the car after this repair runs hotter than before?
Temp rises 90 and before ina a few minutes and it didn't do it before. |

While your at it, consider replacing the timing belts and the water pump. _________________ Scott Sander

How often do i have to change my water pump in car's life? I've done it once and it seems to work properly (at least i can hear no noise from it ) |

Hi,
Actually water pump has no aging limit. For example our 1965 Ford Cortina with 160000kms had its water pump replaced for the first time at the begining of the 90's at around 130000kms.It used to leak.
It depends of car mileage, coolant quality (presence of pure water) the amount of rust inside the circuit etc.
Generally when the pump is close to its end , it will warn you from ticking sounds, coolant leakages, slack on it pulley.

Tomorrow I will take the car again to the garage. I've touched the water and it isn´t hot but the ventilator is working... These aren´t good news i think...
Thanks to all |

Mechanic has said that a new thermostat makes the car to rise its temp fastly so if the car runs hotter is normal and the water to be warm but not hot is normal too.
Also has said that it is normal that not always throws water into the tank even if the ventilator is working. I don't know if i've said it clearly.
Thanks |
