hi guys,
I´m going to put a 16v engine in my series 2 1.7ie and would like to know if I can use my gearbox for the 16v.
the box ratio´s are the same, aren´t they?

With the 16V it has a slight cutout on the side of the gearbox housing to allow for the crank angle sensor on the motor. You may need to accommodate for that, but apart from that it should fit. Laughing

Wouldn't they all have cutouts for crank angle sensors seeing as all the S3's were fuel injected? Question

Would a series 2 1.7 GB have a cutout I wonder? They were making FI versions of the carb cars for the Euro market so I would've thought they'd make all the gb's the same.

Hi

Not all the series 3 cars were fuel injected, and neither did all the series 3s have power steering. Also many of the injected series 3 cars used the LE3.2 Jetronic system which used a distributor like normal, so no real need for a seperate crankshaft position sensor
