Morning All,
I was driving my lovely Alfa from Lismore to Brisbane on Friday afternoon(about 2 hours drive) when it broke a fan belt. Anyhow i limped it to the nearest town and got a new belt put on it. Kept driving after all that was sorted and about 10 kms up the road it threw the belt off again. This time no start, After much hassle including putting the car on a friends car trailer only to have it leap forward over the front of the trailer(minor problem really if you have a crane truck come past who is willing to help) anyhow once it got to my mechanics shop in brisbane discovered it had also thrown both timing belts with possibly bent valves. Oh well now is a good time to fit in the 16v _________________ 5 Alfa 33's, 2 Suds God there is no help for me

How old were the belts? Why did they break or get thrown off? Did you look at them for wear?
Do you have any bigger pictures of that car on your avatar? |

The timing belts themselves were only 10,000 km old. The fan belt was slipping due to the load on it from the air con/stereo and as it is a 180AMP alternator thats why it let go, A piece of it somehow got into the timing case and in between the crank and the timing belts and this is why it threw them off, The car on my avator is my car the one that died on friday yes i have loads of pics of it. Pm me with details of where you want me to send some to _________________ 5 Alfa 33's, 2 Suds God there is no help for me

I express sympathy with you Graham.
The same happend to me in 6000rpms last summer, the fan belt (Alfa original) was only 1/2 year old and snapped my right bank 7 teeth over. I've also noticed cam wear on the inntake cams, so I replaced them together with the lifters. The heads and valve guides were ok, no damage. I plan to modify the cam covers so this never happen again.... _________________ Stian Henriksen, Norway
