Hello all , my left hand carburetor has developed a drip ,it appears to be worse at idle/ low revs. i gave it a quick clean and blew out the jets etc.
Fuel seems not to high in bowl- did not check float level .
It appears to be dripping from main jet area of rear barrel.
any suggestions much appreciated.

hi ya pete ....yea the floats sometimes "flood "
or get heavy ...check it against the other one, or try swapping them ?

After much shagging around with bending floats ,I finally managed to get some new ones. Flooding from the rear chokes on idle stopped and the car runs sweeter than you would believe. This is what they must have been like when new. Total enjoyment. Floats should weigh 10 gms, if they don't then get some new ones, you won't believe the difference.

| If the carb is overflowing it will be the float valve either leaking or sticking. If the leak is intermittent then it's sticking. They are needle valves and any crap in it will stop it closing fully. Before replacing them try back flushing the carb or blow compressed air through holding the float open, this should dislodge any crap then fit an inline fuel filter. If this fails try neat Redex put straight into the carb with some fuel line and a funnel via the fuel inlet. Leave fir 1/2 an hour for it to do it's stuff. Then sit back and admire the smoke cloud engulf you neighbourhood. Worth a try before stripping anything down. |

Hate to argue with Gary , but my experience is the floats being the main culprit . I put brand new needle valves in my S1 and the problem continued until I replaced the floats and the tune throughout the whole rev range suddenly fell into place. I wasted a whole year trying to outsmart the problem while I waited for new floats to arrive in NZ. Now I wish I had asked on the forum if anybody could have procured some for me in UK. It would have been a lot cheaper than all the fuel I put through it. Dennis Marwood who owns Autoquip Marketing got some in for me and I know he got extras. Ph 09 6300944.
