first of all HI, and than a question? Confused

I found 33 16v and in the papers it was 16v, but the engine was not (for my oppinion 16v maybe it was changed, or who knows) the guy told me that it was 16v, but there was no 16v sign on the air intake on the top.
So my Q is: how to recognise 16v from 8v

Tnx in advance!

Mmm, how to explain.

The 16V has 2 camshafts per cylinder bank, with the spark plugs between the cams. The 8V has a single camshaft per cylinder bank with the spark plugs above the head

All the best

Keith

Hi,

If you look at the slide presentation on my web site, I have a picture (slide Cool of the engine in my car. So it should look like that, unless he has modified it.

Do the plugs sit at about 45 degrees to the horizontal? If so then it is an 8V. The 16V plugs sit horizontal, you also can't see the plugs when fitted as they fit between the inlet and exhaust camshafts.

Or you could check for the oil return lines from the cam covers to the sump. They are pretty obvious. But not as obvious as the inlet manifold......
