I live in Australia which is a problem with owning an Alfaromeo, Parts are very very expensive and getting harder to find. there are very few 33 series 3 16v's being wrecked, also very few were actually sold in Aus.
My question is, what is price and availability of 4 camshafts for a 16v? and would anyone be able to assist me in importing them?
Secondhand preferably, or does anyone know of any salvage yards who are reliable.
A 16v in good condition can fetch $3500Aus
1.7 twin carbs are starting to climb in price, im not surprised when i find them for sale for up to $2500Aus
any help or info would be much appreciated _________________ Molto Veloce! |

Matt,
That price you quoted for a 16V, is that just for the motor or the whole car? _________________ Scott Sander

it's for the Motor, one in Good condition.
it's cheaper to buy a whole car than buy a motor alone, as per usual _________________ Molto Veloce! |

Hi
TRy one of the UK places. My local Alfa specialist (WAD Auto Developments, 00 44 1902 401711) had a 16V engine for a 145/146 in stock recently that was brand new and unused for about £1k (roughly Aus$2700). Not sure whether they are compatible with the 33 injection though (the 145/6 didnt use a dizzy)
All the best

i am actually only after camshafts.
from my understanding isn't 145/146 cams a little less aggressive than the older 33 16v? im not sure.
we never got to see a 145 or a 146 in Aus _________________ Molto Veloce! |

Hi
One cam is the same, the other slightly less agressive I think (cannot remember which one)
Cams should be easy to get in the UK. Cranks are more of a problem (they crack)
All the best

Maybe its not so helpful,as its not the cams you're asking for.But if you want,I can try to find a danish price on 4 original camshafts for a 16v.
But I know that a set of upgrade cams for 16v from Colombo & Bariani (streets,-not the race ones) here in Denmark costs DKR 10,000,-,=small AUD 2400,- .You can nearly get a complet good condition 16v engine for that amount.

A few years ago now Brian Foley had a 16V motor with PS pump and A/C compressor, throttle bodies for $2k supposedly 40K on the motor. So 3.5K seems a bit steep.
He also had the 1.7 for $1.4k.
I suppose I'm glad you are not quoting those prices for a whole car.
Anyway get the cams out of a 30746 motor, 33 16V no cat. But you will have to get them from O/S or go aftermarket. _________________ Scott Sander

i only just sold my 1.7ie for $1600. engine alone.
whats the claimed improvement with the Colombo & Bariani cams?
I have only just fully rebuilt this 16v engine, around 5 months ago. When i purchased the engine i was aware the cams were worn and either need to be rebuilt or replaced. They seem to be a little hard to find in Aus as Alfa wreckers are reluctant to seperate cams from engine.(i dont blame them). _________________ Molto Veloce! |
