Chaps,
Anyone had any experience in overboring a 1.7 8v boxer?
What can the bore be safely taken out to?
Would a 0.060" overbore be too much?
Cheers

Don't know, where are you getting the replacement pistons from?
Good luck

Where would you get an oversize gasket from...?
If you know of somewhere, please tell me!

Les,
The guy in OZ that supercharged his 16V Sud used copper gaskets from Obriens Aluminium. They used a original gasket as a template. I guess you could do the same thing and oversise the holes in the gasket for the bore, would be good if it was done on a computer based machining tool.
Maybe not much help, but you could find a metal work shop that could do it in the UK or have a look at these guys http://www.dfcometicuk.com . Can't comment on the quality good or bad. But a place to start _________________ Scott Sander

I really dont have any idea about how it was done, but i have a friend who has a 1.7 bored out to a 1.8 - it seems to go pretty well. |

Hi
In the UK a company used to do 1830cc and 2L conversions of the 33. Think the 1830 conversion meant boring it out by about 3mm
All the best

2 Litres?!? Wow. With standard stroke, that would take the bores out to 94mm! I'm guessing here, but i would have thought the 2L engines would have been stroked in order to preserve some cylinder wall thickness?
Were the heads and rods standard? Compressing all those extra CC's into standard combustion chamber volumes would surely send the compression ratio through the stratosphere!
Who were these super-hereos? Are they still around?

Autodelta in London used to do an 1830 conversion by overboring. Last time I checked was a year or two ago. They also did a 2 litre conversion by stroking the 1830, but discontinued this a few years ago. _________________ Ken McCarthy - 16V Sprint |
