Does anyone Know the difference between the Motronic and Magneti Marelli ECUs for a P4. I have a receipt from a previous owner saying that one of them is a development chip. ( PS.Great site by the way.) Just drove a practically new Mazda 323 and the steering was horrible, just like a Vauxhall vectra. Anyway anyone know about the ECUs?

Hi

The Motronic ECU is for the ignition / injection system. Presume the ECU controlling the 4x4 system is made by Magneti Marelli.

All the best

Thanks Keith. You are of course right. Is it possible that I have a development chip in my P4? It looks just the same as the spare I have ( Bosch Motronic 0 261 200 142 ) but was supplied by Redline Motorsport as a development chip. Can you get development chips if this isn't one and what exactly do they do? Questions, questions, questions.

Hi paul,

i take it you mean the chip in side the ecu,as the code you've quoted is the ecu not the chip, you will have to take the ecu apart to find out what is in there.it's an easy job just bent up the bits of metal around the side of the ecu, then pop the two bits of plastic that holds the two circuit boards together and then you will see the main chip which will be in the middle.think it's 48 pin chip, but dont touch any thing with your hands, where latex gloves for safty.as for what the development chip does,it will rase the red line to about 7000 or more and adjust the fueling to give more power and change the timing to give more torque and stuff like that.

hope this helps abit

john

Shit! Is that what a flux capacitor is. I've just ordered one from timeline motorsports (how to win any race) for a large amount of money. I think I'm suffering from dimitis lately. Crying or Very sad
