thermostat gone?

I think my thermostat has "gone". It takes a long time for my temp gauge to go to normal level and my heater doesn't work. I live in aust so most of the time i don't use my heater. Do i need to get it fix i.e is it going to cause longer term problems to the car.

Hi,

the thermostat is an easy and cheap thing to fix. The faster the engine gets to its operating temperature, the better its performance and efficiency and the less its wear.
