Hi All,
I'm just hoping for a little helpful and maintenance related advice. I am thinking of getting rid of ol' faithful ('86 33QV) and updating to a 1992/3 16V or P4 33.
Which one should I go for, and why? Also - is the P4 much more troublesome to maintain than the 16V with AWD shinanaginry?
Both are becoming increasingly available down under and I can pick up a top notch one for only $8K or so!!...
Or I could always just go for a 147 GTA... _________________ 1986 33 QV

If you can afford a 147GTA, why are you wasting your time with a 33? Go for the 147, maybe they've improved the driving position and the ventilation and the gearbox and the electrics and the build quality and the rustproofing and the body crack resistance and the brakes and the leakproofyness.. |

Well, he's planning to pay AU$8000 for the privilege of owning a 33, and that's before any repair and maintenance costs. Maybe that's enough for the deposit on a 147.. Or you could just buy a GTA badge to stick on a 33 16v. |

I probably could get a 147 GTA - they're only $59K down here. However, there are two main reasons why I am hesitant:
1) Since I live so close to the Sydney CBD, I hardly ever drive...
2) The new Alfas seems to have lost some of their... Alfa-ness - and by that I don't mean the barrage of rusty parts and dodgy electrics!
For minimal money I could get a fuel injected, 16V, quick 33 - which by that stage were apparently pretty well rust-proofed and sorted (?).
So then it comes to this... 16V or P4??? _________________ 1986 33 QV

Well, the P4 is a bit heavier, slower, noisier and draggs it's nose along the ground when fitted with the standard springs they arrived in Oz with. On the other hand they drive just brilliantly as long as traffic light drags are not the scene - it's a bit hard on the clutch. And the brakes are better too, 4 wheel discs.
If you buy, check the center coupling and mounts for signs of butchery, and be prepared to live with all the other Alfa characteristics!
Cheers
James

Errol - that could be a plan mate (obviously you're in Sydney).
Can you gimme some details of your car - kms, colour, rust (!!), problems... general condition?
Photos would be great also...
April was about the time I was thinking of buying anyway...
