1.7 8V versus 16V - exhaust diameter the same?

Will I be able to get away with using my 8V exhaust mid/rear sections of exhaust pipe on my soon-to-be-installed 16V?

I intend to have a performance exhaust system installed shortly but to get it there I need to bastardise either the old P4 system or the old 1.7 8V system to make a 'workable' full system.

Are the diameters the same?
