Hi,
Unfortunately the new year has not entered good enough for my alfa.
It has been a few days that the car roars no matter cold or warm, low or high revs.
The roar is heard mainly from the interior and from the engine compartment you must pay more attention.
When I rev the engine just by pressing the accelerator instantly the roar stops and then begins again.
I went to the mechanic and he said that the PAS pump is the cause.
Just few hours ago I took off the belt of the PAS pump but the roar remains.
The pulleys of the water pump, alternator have no slack at all, tight to the bone.
Using a long screwdriver and a stethoscope, I tried to locate the roar in the areas where pulleys belts etc are involved but in vain. With the engine running I checked the distributor, the water pump, the camshafts but all in vain.
What I have concluded is that the noise is heard in the area near the heater box but no result from it (I disconnected all the wiring of the heater).
What remains is the timing belts and their tensioners which I have to check (damn rain!!!)
I'm very frustrated since I cannot find what the cause is and I'm afraid for the worse...
Have you guys got any idea what it might be or where else i should look at?

Hi,
After a long time and inspection performed, the conlusion and the one to blame was found.
I had to remove the belts of the alternator, PAS pump, lift slightly the engine with the jack to inspect the engine supports but all in vain.
Last Sunday on a small excursion we had with the AROC of my country a mechanic has present along with his Alfa.
I then told to him if he could take a look to see what's going on.
The guy then put his ear on the firewall and with eyes closed he grabs a valve under the coolant reservoir. This is the dump valve for the fuel vapors which go to the fuel vapor seperator/intake manifold/distributor.
It felt vibrating a lot.
So one of these days I go buy one new and replace it (32€ cost)-As my dealer told me it contains active carbon (am I saying it right?) and usually it stucks with the fuel vapors.
Anyway another problem is now (almost)solved; I'm ready to attack the new one (when It arises)
