hi everyone!
i'm stuck with what seems to be the hell of a problem : i replaced my waterpump the other day, fitting new cambelts ; i kept the tensioners since they were only 20 000 miles and six months old. the show no sign of wear or play.
when the car is hot, there is a whine coming from the engine that wasn't here before.
i have been grinding the waterpump casing a litlle to make absolutely sure the cambelt doesn't touch it, now i checked that the belts run entirely free.
i took the water pump/alternator belt away, the noise is still here. i refitted old cambelts, no improvement. i tried to fiddle with the tensioning of the cambelts, no improvement. then i put the new belts back in place, and the noise has nearly disappeared.
i'm not superstitious, bu i have been changing a good dozen of belts on 33s in my life and never experienced such a weird thing ; i don't know why it didn't work, then worked! can anyone help me understand? are you used to re-tensioning belts when the engine is hot?
regards,
